And Ed was very good at taking dents and things out of cars and he could spray paint. And if they only would have remained, they would have been a part of it, and everything could have been fully appreciated. Eventually, he was able to move his collection of Victorian-style furnishings safely into the home, and add to it larger pieces of furniture to complete the restoration. That wasyou probably dont rememberthere was this great big factory right down here, built on the beach. Burke: It was. He was an old craftsman from the other side. So I took that out of the brick and I got some cement, put it all back in, put the wall back up. Burke: Yes, but just think of that gorgeous, bigthe mansion that this was their farmhouse, up the street here, that was gorgeous. And I kept life rights for it. Of course, she loved the smell of lilacs. can stop at any time. My big old Victorian house is saved, and thats still there. But they are the ones thatup in arms, saying, Aww, that poor horse. And I said, Was that a dream? I was seventeen years with the Air Force. Well, he didnt want the bull with the little girl. He was always eager to share his stories with visitors, friends, and of course, his nieces and nephews and their children. She was something, I mean. Daller: Well, you got involved with Burkes Landing with Scalia. He was 63. Burke: Oh, God, Mario come out here all the time. Its a big plaque on it, its landmarked and everything. Daller: Mm-hmm! And I never got along with her that much because everything I wanted to do, she said, No, no, no, I dont like that. October 17, 2022 She would say, The lilacs still in the front hall? And Id say, Oh, is that what that smell is? We were only allowed so much. And then I was able to get all my stuff out of storage and out of peoples homes where I stored them, and furnished the house and moved and lived in the whole house, took care of it. And he owned the funeral home. But you used tell me. Im only a salesman in a department store. I said, and its going to take a lot of money to put that house back together. She said, Well, Im going to help you all I can. And I said, But why would I fix a house I didnt own? And she said, Well, why dont we talk about that. She said, If youre interested in buying it, I will make the arrangements that you can own it. And Im glad I did what I did, about just giving it to the National Historic Trust. They were gorgeous.
